Years back, I bought the book, Anne Frank’s Diary, when I visited Israel. After keeping it on my bookshelf for years, I did not get to read it and decided to give it away.
Late last year, I saw the illustrated version of Anne Frank’s Diary at Kinokuniya book store. After flipping through a few pages, I bought it. 😀 Lately I am attracted to illustrated books. Anne Frank is the second illustrated book that I bought. I took my time to read the book, reading the words slowly, looking at the pictures and imagining myself being there with Anne.
Anne Frank was born in the Frankfurt in 1929. On Anne’s thirteenth birthday, Anne was presented with a diary which she gave the name, Kitty, an imaginary friend. Anne wrote about the events in the Secret Annex, her feelings and thoughts.

In 1942 spring, Anne’s father furnished a hiding place in the annex of his business premises at Prinsengracht 263. The below picture is the Secret Annex at her father’s office building where Anne and family and four others hid from the Nazi. The front of the office building was all offices and storerooms. The Secret Annex could be accessed through a very steep staircase. A cleverly built bookcase that swung out, leading to the Secret Annex.

At the tender age of 13, Anne was being put through a lot and was constantly being compared with her 16 year old sister.

The below words from Anne strikes me:
Go outside, to the country, enjoy the sun and all nature has to offer. Go outside and try to recapture the happiness within yourself, think of all the beauty in yourself and in everything around you, and be happy. …beauty remains, even in misfortune. If you just look for it, you discover more and more happiness and regain your balance. A person who’s happy will make others happy; a person who has courage and faith will never die in misery!

Anne’s diary ends on Tuesday, August 1, 1944. Below photo is Anne’s last input to her diary, Kitty.
