Autumn in Barcelona – Picasso & FC Barcelona

After spending a day checking out Gaudi’s amazing architecture, I spent my last day in Barcelona at Picasso Museum and Camp Nou. To avoid the crowd, we got up early to visit Picasso Museum as it starts to get crowded by noon time. Another way to skip the queue is to get the Articket BCN Passport. With this single ticket/passport, you can visit six of the best art museums in Barcelona – Museu Picasso, Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture, Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona, Fundacio Antoni Tapies, Fundacio Joan Miro and Museu Nacional D’Art de Catalunya.  The Art Passport is valid for a year. Simply by visiting 3 of the 6 museums, you would have gotten your money back for the purchase of the Art Passport. Do note that Picasso Museum is closed on Monday and opens from Tuesday to Sunday at 9 am to 7 pm.

 

Museu Picasso of Barcelona

The Museu Picasso of Barcelona is opened on 9 March 1963, comprises of 4,250 works. The museum’s collection is the most comprehensive in regards to Picasso’s early years of apprenticeship and youth, which makes it a centre of reference.

 

Right after, I took the Barcelona Bus Turistic for a city tour. If your time permits, I would recommend doing the bus city tour on day one that you may have a view of the city and decide on the places you would like to spend more time at.

I took pictures of the beautiful city from the upper deck of the double deck bus and stopped by at various places for a walk and meal.

FC Barcelona vs Sevilla FC

After a long day of roaming around, I got back to the hotel to freshen up before the FC Barcelona vs Sevilla FC match at 8 pm. We bought relatively decent seats at the centre though was right at the back. The tickets were expensive at 124 Euro per ticket. The atmosphere was amazing, sensed the football fans’ excitement when we were few hundred metres away from Camp Nou, the football stadium. Camp Nou is huge with seating capacity for 99,354 people and it was packed. Barcelona won 5-1 against Sevilla. Messi broke Telmo Zarra’s all-time La Liga goal-scoring record of 251 goals with a hat trick at that match.

After the match, our spirits were high. We took a walk since there were so many people and was impossible to get a taxi.  After walking for about two kilometres, we hailed a taxi back to the mall near our hotel for supper at McDonald’s. Then head back to the hotel to pack my luggage as I have an early morning flight to catch the next day.

It has been an awesome trip. We managed to cover most of the must-see with a little planning. I am glad I spent my time on sight-seeing rather than shopping. It was a great experience and use of time instead of spending money on unnecessary things. Wrapping up the trip with an FC Barcelona match was a highlight of the trip.

Barcelona is indeed a beautiful and colourful city, very walkable, especially during autumn. Surprised that I managed to cover so much in just three days.
