Shalom! City of David

Shalom! Continuing our journey in Israel, if you missed my earlier posts, check out Shalom! Israel.

After our visit at Temple Mount, we continued our tour at the ancient Jerusalem, City of David, a small hill located near the Western Wall and Temple Mount.

More than 3,000 years ago, King David conquered the city from the Jebusites and established his Kingdom here.  It was here where the People of Israel were united under King David’s rule and where the Holy Ark was brought and the First Temple built by King Solomon, son of King David.

It is now an archaeological park where we saw the hidden forts and ancient tunnels; the site believed to be the King David’s Palace and the Royal Administrative Centre.

The remains at the site include water tunnels, one of which was built by King Hezekiah and still carries water, considered one of the great wonders of ancient technology.
