Morning Walk at Sengkang Riverside Park

Sengkang Riverside Park

I was greeted by the clear blue sky when I got up from bed, so we took a drive to the north eastern part of Singapore to explore Sengkang Riverside Park, my first visit to the Park.

Sengkang Riverside Park

Sengkang Riverside Park is one of the four parks located on the North Eastern Riverine Loop of the Park Connector Network, featuring a constructed wetland and rich biodiversity. It is a beautiful park in the middle of the public housing estate, a great way to enhance community living and healthy lifestyle.  In the park is a cafe, Mushroom Cafe, that was pack with people having their breakfast after their morning exercise.

Sengkang Floating Island

Within the park is Singapore’s largest man-made wetland, Sengkang Floating Island, that sits on Punggol Reservoir, Singapore’s 16th reservoir. The first of its kind in Singapore, this wetland provides a natural habitat for fishes and birds.  It beautifies the landscape and absorbs pollutants, improving the quality of water in the reservoir.

We are entering the Sengkang Floating Island. The buildings in the background are public housing. In Singapore, we usually referred to them as HDB flats. HDB stands for Housing Development Board, the government agency in-charged of public housing

Besides running, cycling and rollerblading, we can go boating.

Sengkang Riverside Park is a park that you would bring your family for some family time, roller blade, picnic or jog. If you are looking to spend some time alone, Sengkang Riverside Park would also offer a quiet area that you can retreat to.

Brunch at Jalan Kayu

After our walk, we headed to Jalan Kayu for roti prata and bandung.  Roti prata is a fried flour-based pancake that cooked over a flat grill, usually served with vegetable-based curry and bandung is a drink that consists of evaporated milk flavoured with rose cordial syrup.  Both are local favourites for breakfast or brunch.
