My day 7 in Taiwan, check out Taiwan for my earlier posts on my trip to Taiwan. The weather has not been great when I was in Taipei, it was raining most of the time. I braved the rain to meet Dr Sun Yat-Sen, the founding father of the Republic of China at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall 國父紀念館.
Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall 國父紀念館
The memorial was constructed in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the founding father of Republic of China. The construction commenced in 1965 in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Sun Yat-Sen’s birth. It was opened in May 16, 1972, the architecture and placid landscape cover an area of some 115,500 sq meters. The park named Zhongshan Park marks the front yard of the Hall where Dr Sun Yat-Sen’s statues are placed. (Refer to the two pictures below)
Sitting in the hall, is a 19-foot bronze statue of Dr Sun Yat-sen (picture above and below) watched over in the day by motionless military honor guards.
The guards are changed hourly in a rifle twirling ceremony and I was fortunate to witness the changing of guards.
After the changing of guards ceremony, I visited the exhibition area then went to the Zhongshan Park for a walk before leaving for shopping.
Spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and buying souvenirs at XiMenDing and also visited the Eslite, one of the largest bookstore in Taiwan.
